Original like-new 1950 Olds Showroom or Visible Hood
Metal and Plexiglass $1000

A farmer out in Virginia was cleaning out his barn and came across a big box -- inside was a showroom visible hood for a 1950 Oldsmobile with paper still partially over the Plexiglas.  These photos don't do it justice.  The hood is covered with over 59 years of dust (even though it was in a box).  We don't know if it fits an Olds 88 or 98.  If you know how to tell, please let us know.

When the paper was peeled back from the Plexiglas windows in the hood, it left marks which appear as scratches but it is just old glue.  This hood is like new.  We are taking bids because we can't find evidence of another one ever being sold so don't know the value.

Note:  We had originally posted this as a 1949 Olds hood, but Franklin Graf of the Oldsmobile Club, an Olds expert emailed us and said: quote:

First of all, if the hood is metal it's a 1950, not a 1949.  In 49 the factory made complete plastic hoods.  In 1950 they put plastic window's in the hood to see the New Rocket Engine 303.7 cu. in over head valve engine...   I have a 1949 plastic
hood -- they were just showroom items.. It just lifted off.  In 1950 you were able to open and close the hood.

Since this hood has hinges and is metal, it is probably a 1950.  Now whether it is for an 88 or 98, we're still researching that.
