Facts and History on 50s Chevy coupes
From the first Chevy produced in 1912 which sold for $2,150 up the fortieth year of Chevrolet's history
(1951), the Chevy was held high in the estimation of most Americans. The 1951 Chevy models were introduced to the public
December 9, 1950. In 1950, Chevrolet factories were now producing over 24 million vehicles.
Chevy offered the Fleetline and the Styleline in 1951. The contours were rounder but not many
other changes occured. The grille was smoother and the tailights were different from 1950, just enough change to call
it new and exciting. The front of the 1951 was made to look even wider by placing the signal lights further apart.
Some of Chevy's promises about the 1951 were not fullfilled and sales fell from the boom of 1950 but
Chevy still outsold Ford. In 1951, 175,000 Styleline Specials were built; 855,000 Styleline DeLuxe models were built;
189,000 Fleetline DeLuxe were built; and only 9,800 Fleetline Specials were built.
